Finished the manual cam chain tensioner today and what a difference. Combined with the carb work, this thing smokes. Everything is improved. It quacks in mid-range. Idles better. All around smoother.
I've ridden off and on since 1971. Off while raising my family, on when they grew up, a little in between whenever I got the chance. My roots are in dirt riding and Trials, only lately on the street with my 1994 Honda VFR.
In June of 2009, I was looking for a Kawasaki KLR 650, but ended up purchasing a 1993 Kawasaki KLX650C1. After researching this bike, I found that it was the Dual Sport bike the KLR can only dream of being. This bike is lighter, faster, handles better in the dirt and equals or betters the KLR on the street. It has a twin cam, four-valve head, produces 39 HP at the rear wheel and has inverted forks and a full cradle dirt frame. The only real downside is a small gas tank and parts scarcity. Produced for only 4 years, this machine is pretty rare and collectible. It was also sold in a dirt-only version that was designated the KLX650R("A" model). The dirt version had different suspension and performance specifications.
1993 Kawasaki KLX650C1 Specifications
Dimensions Length - 2250 mm (88.59 in) Height - 1190 mm (46.85 in) Width - 900 mm (35.43) Wheelbase - 1510 mm (59.45 in) Road Clearance - 265 mm (10.43 in) Seat Height - 885 mm (34.84 in) Dry Weight - 153 kg (337.3 lb) Curb Weight - 170 kg (374.8 lb) Fuel Capacity - 12 L (3.18 gal)
I have a 93 KLX 650 also. Where did you get our Manual Cam Chain Tensioner? I would like to get one also.
